Here is an extended description

On Easter Sunday 2022, Michael Crawford-Hick collapsed at Waterloo Station. Conscious but suddenly unable to walk, he was rushed to hospital. When he got home five days later, he’d been diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). This former engineer, keen traveller and passionate amateur photographer was now facing up to life as a disabled man, battling mobility issues, chronic pain and brain fog.

In An Unexpected Disability, Michael tells of how he slowly but surely rebuilt his life with the help of the FND community and physical and mental therapy. He explains how he found a new purpose in life, and how his desire to champion the under-represented inspired him to set up the ground-breaking Disability Sports Network.

From his first-midweek wheelchair basketball game to the 2024 Paralympics and beyond, Michael’s journey is one of courage, tenacity and unflinching honesty. It’s essential reading for anyone who believes in genuine representation and accessibility and is a rallying cry for the healing power of participation in disabled sports at any level.
